Dr. David Melendez is a highly accomplished physician who was born in Puerto Rico in San Juan. At a young age he moved to New York City with his mother where he lived in the projects in Spanish Harlem. His mother was a social activist who worked closely with John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King. His parents remarried and he returned to Puerto Rico in the sixth grade. He obtained his bachelor's degree in pre-med from the University of Puerto Rico, graduating magna cum laude, and subsequently received his doctorate in medicine from the institution. After completing his residency at the University of Puerto Rico at Caguas Hospital, where he held the position of chief resident, Dr. Melendez served as the assistant chief OB at the USAF Medical Corps. There he received the Air Force Commendation Medal for meritorious service. He was senior partner and medical director of perinatal services at Saint Anthony Hospital. He practiced at the Center for Women's Health from 2002 to 2024, a collaborative group of six physicians dedicated to providing comprehensive healthcare for women. He began his journey at OBHWS in 2024. In his personal time, Dr. Melendez enjoys discovering new restaurants, supporting local artists, attending music concerts, and pursuing his passion for classic Porsches and travel.
